EU member states definitively approved an amendment to the Climate Act — a goal to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 90% by 2040 compared to 1990.
To achieve the goal, it will be possible to use international carbon credits up to 5% of the total reduction.
At the same time, the expansion of the emissions trading system (ETS2) to transport and building heating is postponed by one year — now until 2028.
After approval by the European Parliament in February, this is the final step towards the law's final validity.
